ID THEFT
"Identity theft" is the act of using someone else's personal identity information (e.g., name, address, social security number, etc.) to fraudulently create financial accounts, apply for loans and other credit, or to take over a person's accounts for the purpose of committing fraud for financial gain.
ID THEFT & ACCOUNT HIJACKING

HOW ID THEFT OCCURS
Your personal identity information has value and should be protected at all times. While many consumers think of identity theft in terms of PC or Internet high tech crimes, ID theft occurs in a wide variety of situations.
In addition to Phishing or Pharming scams, home and automobile burglaries, theft of wallets or purses, interception and redirection of your mail, and rummaging through trash receptacles are the preferred methods of stealing your personal information.
The more you are aware of the common forms of identity theft, the greater security precautions you can implement to protect your personal information.
